Just the desktop, nothing else!!

hey ive got my mates comp here, and after about 2 days of booting up u get to the select user screen, once u have chosen the desktop picture comes up and thats the end of the story, all hard drive lights go quiet and nothing else happens. no icons start bar nietea and u cant do anything

its xp home

ive tried doing ctrl alt del and running exploerer manually but still nothubg

and yes it works in safe mode,

i have scanned for viruses by hooking the hard drive to my comp and it found nothing


any ideas???

you tried scanning for stuff in safe mode and running hijack this? also check what the startup entries are.

im now just trying a system restore ( as the ever works) but good idea i shall try that and get back to u if i worked

well its got no internet connection so i cant analysize anyway, but if its never been on the net anyway it shudnt hav any crap anyway??

hmmm theres still a chance its got viruses and stuff but only from documents on memory sticks and things like that. if its working ok then i wouldnt worry to much as long as the comp has avg or something like that.you might wanna defrag it if you havent already.
