intel quad cores have been out for a while. and having 2 chips is probably better because the cpus will have less heat if you have 2 coolers on 2 seperate cpus.

if you dont plan on overclocking then the amd 6000+ is good but might be overkill unless you plan to play a lot of modern games which you dont. id look into the 4800+ class unless you have a lot of money to spare
have to cpus on one bord is a horrible idea
it slows a computer down in most cases becouse applacations are desiged for one chip. pluse have the cores more then a millimiter away from each other causes lag and bottle necking becouse a cpu speed and effitionce all comes from how small and how many trancistors they can fit on one chip

yeah but a computer with 2 dual cores in two sockets is still gonna be fater than one dual core so it aint that bad and plus quad cores ie one chip 4 cores wont be too good at overclcoking cos of the heat generated

Looks like the X2 6000 is out of stock on Newegg so I've updated the setup a bit, have a look at it and see what you think:

Processor
Intel Core 2 duo E6600:

Motherboard
Asus P5B-E LGA 775
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131070

Ram
Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 dual channel 2x1gb sticks
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145590

Video Card
XFX GeForce 7600GT 256 mb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814150185

Hard drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148136

Let me know what you think, any compatibility problems with this stuff? Which setup do you like better, the first one or the second one? I could always get the X2 6000 processor from someplace else for the first setup, if it isn't sold out everywhere.
I've got a very similar setup, slightly different RAM (rated at 4-4-4-12), and the 320 GB version of that hard drive, and let me tell you it's great.

faster in which way? for multipul programs not really mabey a little bit becouse
windows vista/xp are desiged to use one cpu socket
and when it comes to games deff no way becouse the boddem neck between the 2 sockets and graphics cards would be huge!
oh and the intel core 2 quad realy arnt true quad
there just intel core 2 duo chip shurken in half and stuck togeather
so ya they do creat more heat
but intels true qaud core is on the way witch will be all in one chip
so heat will be little
and pluse its about the size of your thumb (it uses a new slot)
so it will also uses less power
idk what amds plans are but they better settle there thing with ati and get there new graphics cards out and new prossesors out cuz the intel core 2 duo is owning every thing they got
im very intreasted tho in there new chip tho i want to see how it compairs to the intel core 2 duo and true intel core 2 quad when that comes out in late 2007 - 2008
oh ya and theres some benchmarks on google that show intels core 2 duo beat amds 2 socket quad core in most tests

Yeah, I see that in your signature.

Only now I would get a Samsung spinpoint 500gb hard drive instead of the barracuda and I'm adding a samsung dvd drive.
