Is it possible to double the memory on my dimension 8200 [400MHz] FSB-512MB-windows XP home, by adding 2 sticks, 256 MB each? And do I need to update BIOS, and how is that done? Thank you.

depends on how many ram slots it has ,open it up that is the bet way to tell and also tell us do you have 1 512 or 2x 256 already there

and i seriously doubt you need a bios update i have added memry to hundreds of systems an none of them have ever neede a bios update

if you look at the dell manual here.. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200/specs.htm#1102365
is says you have 4 slots for memory sticks, and can use 64,128,256, or 512MB sticks for a maximum of 2GB (if using windows xp which it looks like you are, or windows 2000, and only a maximum of 512MB if using windows millennium). It takes RDRAM PC800(non-ECC). shouldn't need a bios update, just add the ram and you should be fine.
