xp mabey corrupt?

ok my comps been freezing like crazy since i reinstalled xp for a new hard drive
i have no virus spyware malware becouse ive installed and ran ever anti spy virus malware program
my hard ware is fine becouse i can run halo no prob without frezzeing
im running a pentuim 3 1ghz with half a gig of ram and a 5500fx gefroce card
now just for web browsing and going on aim my comp should be fine
becouse before i reinstalled windows i could do that pluse way more with no prob
now the only thing i can think off is that windows xp itself might be corrupt
1. is this a possibility
2. wats the best way to fix it with out deleting all my files?

Well, it may depend. It could be a bad install, but that's a little too far fetched. To me, it sound like you need to install your drivers and such.

drives for wat?
i have drives for my graphics card but thats the only one i can think off
but the thing is the problem didnt start imeditly
only about 2-3 weeks later

How about defraging your hard drive?

How about processes? Run msconfig to remove unwanted tartup options.

Was it a clean install? Well I guess it would have to be if you installed XP on a new hard drive . I would try not to install anything else after the XP isntallation and see if it freezes on you. Just run the bare minumum to check it out such as the necessary drivers. What antivirus software are you using? Is it Norton? They can bog down your system. Have you tried booting into Safe Mode too? See if it freezes in there too. If so, there's probably conflict with one of your drivers.

i just though of somthing what if i used system restore cuz i made a restore point
after i installed xp? but will that delete all my files?

well im insafe mood right now and yes it has frezzed on me
not as much in regular start up but it does frezze
