Its a way of making a computer think you have a different MAC address. So if someone wanted to hack you, they would get the MAC addresses you allow, and then change the address on their hardware to get into your system. Just do a search for it, theres plenty info.

my thanks to all who replied, I contacted hawking and it took all of about 5 minutes to get my wpa key setup...

I am now on a secured network, how secure is yet to be seen, but secure nonetheless...
