Laptop and PC question

Ive got wireless internet for my LP, but the guy who installed it said you could just plug in the etherent cord to the back of the PC, and it would work on that too, but it doesnt, can someone tell me how to fix it.

go to network connections and make sure the appropriate network connection is enabled.
