My son has a Athlon 64 3000+,Asrock 939Dual-Sata2,1gig ram and geforce 6200 video card.I am going to update his computer but stay with socket 939 until i can afford a conroe setup.Anyway i bought him an Athlon 64+ San Diego cpu today and was wondering if when i put it in if i will have to reformat the hard drive. Thanks for any responses.

you shouldn't have to reformat windows. I have never seen a processor upgrade require one. i'm sure there is a minimal chance taht if the jump is big that there would be problems, but odds are you'd be able to fix them with something easy like fixboot in the recovery counsol.

When i went from single core to Dual core i needed a reinstall. Hopefully u shudnt need one but we all know and love Windows, so who knows ;)

Even if it doesn't work, you can always try to repair the OS, you won't lose all your stuff that way.
