OK to clear up the issue with ebay, the reason you can't post a link to an ebay listing is for spam purposes otherwise everyone would join and post just to promote their auction.

hey David, do you think you can make it a rule to have your username and date written on a piece of paper with the product in a picture so we know that they person actually has the item in possession? Its a verification system that works very well to prevent scammers. Please think this over. Thanks!

think of it like this.

EBAY specialise in selling things, that's their entier business, they have a massive sales site set up, payment gateways, paypal is their company, they offer ways to advertise products, and when things do go wrong, they are as mediators and arbitrators in the process.

COMPUTER FORUMS is a computer forum, that's the entier business, we have a big forum, but no sales marketplace, we have no payment gateways, no money transfering companies, no mediators and no after sale feed back systems.


being perfectly honest, if people get csammed when using Ebay, then they are just as likely, (if not more likely due to lack of any protection) to get scammed here.

there is no simple protection that can be put in place.

if I were being perfectly honest I would say to someone, yes, Paypal has it's troubles, Ebay is flawed as well and open to csammers, but from the point of view of pretection I'd much rather send someone there than I would suggest that they post an advert on this site.
simply because we offer no protection at all, none, nada, zilch, zip etc...

if you've been scammed on ebay, (or are worried about being scammed on ebay) why on earth would you come to a less secure place to trade?

Every comment you've made here is spot on, I agree with every point you've made, it's not the members that have been here a while that would ignore the rules about this, they should have more sense, & mostly they do, god bless 'em!, it's some newbies & junior members that we have to watch out for, I'm afraid, those who've been here for from one day, up to about three months so please guys, the moment you see something like this, please report it straight away, we mods rely a lot on reported posts, sometimes a lot of us are either asleep [time differential] or at work or at college, so the quicker you act, the quicker we can nab them, also if a member doesn't follow the correct procedure, please don't ask him details or attempt to open up a deal, thanks.

Anyway, selling things should basically remain unfettered providing it's legitimate, and not some form of rampant spamming. And I disagree with eBay auction links in sigs, it's just stupid.

I think well-established members should be allowed to post eBay links in the For Sale/Trade place.

i agree with UK here, posting ebay links in sigs isnt a good idea.. i cant see the problem with posting ebay links in the for sale forum if you are an established member, yeah sure you cant just join up and put them in, but after say 6 months and/or 1000 posts, no problems.. IMO.
