I've just received my council tax demand, looking back it has doubled in 14 years, it is now £987 a year, it should be £1320 a year, but I get a reduction as I live on my own, on top of that, they've just announced that rubbish will be collected fortnightly instead of weekly, last year, at the height of the very hot summer they went on strike, the smell was terrible, it got in everybodys homes, there were blowflies, maggots & rats, boy, am I looking forward to this summer!!

Fortnightly? Jesus.. and £987 pounds a year isn't bad, well I don't know seeing as how your not in work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDIT; It isn't bad, I get a pension of £7000 a year, & it's plenty for me to live on, & I have no mortgage to find, I don't eat much, you don't, as you get older, I've got plenty to keep me in good clothes, buy new furniture, & pay a gardener & window cleaner, each month I'm in the black, yesterday I filled up with petrol, £54, so I'm happy, the people who suffer are the women who stay single to look afer their elderly mothers, & stop going out to work when they do, the maximum pension they can get is about £90 a week, I know two who work in Morrisons, they are both nearly 70, and still working, I retired 16 years ago, they don't get extras on their pensions as I do, I worked for 48 years & I get extra bits & pieces added, amounting to about £80 a year, it doesn't seem like much but it all helps, plus I get £200 fuel allowance at Christmas, yes, all in all life isn't bad, I just wish I had my wife here to share it with me.

It is over a £1000 here, and as for the older people, it is possible to get Council tax credit, to get exemptions from council tax, it will look at what your earnings are, for example pensions etc.

I would assume that you Maurice have quite a decent pension as you was civil services, (HMP right?) but yes it is the borderline cases that can really mess people up....

I do resent the council removing services only to find that they have spent £100,000 on some modern art that is meant to look pretty or something, specially when they are raping the schools, health services and housing at the moment....

i couldnt imagine living on 13000$ a year which is about 7000 pounds even by myself but not having to pay rent\mortage helps

my grandpa was 64 and he still owned a orchard and he did a lot of the work himself

i know kids are expensive but we barley get by with only my dad working. its either that or my parents hide a bunch of money from us :p but i know they dont

i dont think 2 more kids would cost that much more but were making payments on a car and a house which probaly approach 1200$ a month  manafactuered home companys are theives

Im moving back to 'glorious' England next month, Nothing against the UK, in fact i love the countryside etc, i just hate the government lol, but need to move back to get health sorted. I was kinda worried about how much id have to earn to live. I dont get a huge wage, 12k GBP after all tax paid etc, I need to find a cheapy place to live, and then ive got the crappy bills to pay lol the ones that have risen 100% like gas etc. Council tax also sucks.

Why does everything in the UK have to be so expensive lol, u dont realise it as much until u move to somewhere like Spain where they dont have taxes on Alcohol or cigarettes etc. I mean i can get a nice bottle of wine for 30p lol and a bottle of nice whiskey for 2.50 its crazy, then u see in the UK the same thing for 4 times the price, and u realise its all added tax. Makes me sad, my parents had to move from the UK to Spain because they cud no longer afford to live in their own country.
