So, we're redoing our basement, and with that, we're going to get a nice HDTV. It should be around 50".

We were looking at some plasmas, but they get really expensive with 1080p/i resolution, which would be a nice thing to have. But then LCDs, which more commonly have 1080 resolution, aren't as big, and are more expensive.

Any recommendations?

I guess this looks alright, but the inaccurate primary colors thing is turning me off:

And in the store this one by LG looked pretty good, but it got a 5.9/10 on CNET:

Also, if any of you guys have a surround sound speaker system that you really like, tell me about it!

We have the LG 42LC2D. I couldn't be happier. The picture is crisp and clean with excellent color. It does have a built in HDTV tuner despite what that review says.

It all really boils down to going into the stores and looking at the TVs. It's good to research them out first on the web. But you will need to see them in action before making a choice based on your preferences.

If you are getting a plasma, get a 50" Panasonic Professional series, we have that with a Denon reciever and in-wall speakers, dude its insane. The TV is a 720P TV but its awesome. It's the professional series so the bulb is rated for 60,000hrs.
