SATA vs RAID vs IDE???

Well I anticipated that I would get a mix of answers. Some of you like SATA. And some of you like RAID. I'm more confused than ever. Maybe I should just go with what you would all recommend with an E6600 Intel processor and 8800 video card as far as the MOBO is concerned. I'm not sure which one to get which is why I raised this post to begin with. Alot of the MOBO's I see have a combo of RAID, SATA, and IDE on their specs.

Honestly... It doesn't really matter. Unless you're playing some very advanced games and putting through your computer components through hell and back every day. You won't notice a significant performance increase. SATA is more simple to setup(IE, just plug it in, and go) vs IDE which I personally find to be a pain with some cases(not enough room to move around!). It's personal preference, SATA is THE technology right now, but then again, so was windows ME.....

all your answers are laid out there. i can tell from reading this post you still dont understand what RAID is, which leads me to believe you didnt read POST #2 at all.

I recently upgraded to SATA from a standard parallel ATA drive, and I noticed a huge difference in performance. Windows takes about half the time to boot now. Games run much quciker, and Windows is a bit snappier. Both drives were from the same manufacturer and both were 250 GB.

Go with a SATA drive. If you want to best performance, get this:

There are also different capacities of the second drive, from 160 to 750 GB. The first drive, the Raptor, only comes in 74 GB and 150 GB verisons.

Okay. You need to understand that RAID and SATA aren't the same thing, its like comparing apples and oranges. Use SATA for all your drives, because it is the faster interface.

RAID isn't really an interface. RAID is when you put two or more disks together to help save information or increase performance. For more advanced info, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID which explains RAID, and this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels explains all the RAID levels.
You don't really need to RAID your hard drives if you just have a PC (it is used a lot with servers). If you had two identical drives, a raid controller, and the want for a little better performance, you could do it but it isn't a necessity.

There are 36 Gig raptors as well.

and in Many Benchmarks the 74Gig Raptor has been a tiny bit faster than the 150 Gig (due to its smaller size)
