Avi to Mpeg Converter

What is a good converter for .avi files into something that winamp can read like Mpeg format. I'm looking mainly for one that won't put some shitty wartermark on it and plug-ins for winamp isn't an option.

Ok I'm going to seem stupid asking this but when i click on the download button on the site all i get is it sending me to a page just like it and nothing happening. I've read the thing above telling you what to do and I'm not sure on most of it.

Would that be the problem, one of those things hasn't been done?

took the words out of my mouth. im sure my winamp can play avi's though. i always watch my downloaded avi's with it. however i think mine all use the xvid codec which i downloaded separately.
