i built a new computer but all my files are in my old computer. i cant take the hard drive on my old computer because it is an ata-100 hd i think but my new motherboard only has sata hard drive ports. what is the best way to transfer the files. thanks for the help

Every motherboard has PATA slots. They have to, for optical drives, you should be able to connect it and then transfer any data you need.

You could use the file and settings transfer wizard. Or just connect the drive to the new board as mentioned above. Or another option would be to get a PATA to SATA converter and connect it that way.
