A few gb missing

I formatted my hdd yesterday, and I'm wondering if the following is normal: when I right click on my C drive and go to properties it says I have used 15.3 gb. However, when I go into the C drive itself and highlight all the files and folders, they only add up to 11.1 gb. I was wondering where the extra 4.2 gb are? I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but I did have hidden folders displayed when I highlighted all the contents of the C drive.

I was just wondering if I should reformat my computer to try to recover the lost space.

Thank you in advance,
-Zachary Lindsey

Probably system files for Windows XP. Whenever you format a drive, you will never get all of the space it says on the box. like an 80GB drive you will probably get around 74GB.

that and becuase to start up your computer it requires hard drive space that must be used. for instance i have a 200gb hard drive. i have 184gb on my C: drive and 4.15 gb on my D: drive.
