audio card question

If I have an sound card that doesn't have spdif out, and I connect the cable to the motherboard, would the card still process the audio, or would I need a card with a spdif out?

Ok, i didn't really understand your question, but i think it goes like this. Your card does not have a spdif out. But your Onboard card does, so you connect the cable to that. If my statement is correct then no, your card is not processing that, it would be the onboard audio that is, which is probably disabled in bios.
