I need to take my computer to a computer repair shop for an upgrade, and I want to erase all sensitive information on it, such as cookies, internet history, some office documents, and other things. I created a few CDs with the documents that I need ( inluding my personal photos and emails ) and now I want to erase the other files without formating the drive. What kind of program i need ?

CCleaner will do it. You will probably have to manually delete ya pics etc tho. And if someone really wants your info, then its retrievable :)

CounterSpy has a utility called the "Secure File Eraser" that will completely erase, remove and eliminate all traces of any file you choose to erase using the tool and cannot be brought back with any data recovery software.

Of course you need to purchase a copy of CounterSpy Anti-spyware to have this function, but at $19.95, it is worth it! You would also have the added benefit of having one of the top-rated Anti-spyware programs on the market!

To access the Secure File Eraser, bring up the main window for CounterSpy and click on the System Tools icon. Next, in the System Tools window, click on the "Secure File Eraser" icon and here you will be able to browse to all files you wish to erase and drop them into the "Files to be Erased" window for permanent erasing.

Just remember, once you use this tool...they are gone forever! Make sure you have a good copy of anything you wish to retain BEFORE you erase it.

You can download a 15-day trial copy of "CounterSpy" from my site at http://www.pc-armor.com/products.asp

I hope this helps.

Worth pointing out that CCLeaner is free. Im a bit concerned about what ya trying to hide tho, just copy ya porn to discs in future ha ha :)

Without formatting your hard drive over and over, their is no real way. If people want your information on your computer it's easy to get.

why would a random computer store check through all your personal data and even try to recover it anyway? .. surely they just fix the pc and return it. i suppose they may look through your files but why would they go as far as trying to recover deleted files? just delete what you dont want them to see. no point going ott with all this permantly erase it crap.
