why does ram die and how can i prevent this ??

why does ram die and how can i prevent this ?? as i have 256 mb ddr ram in my toshiba A40 and the ram has now decreased to 239 why is this and is there a way to retrain or repair ram PREFREBLY FREE . any help would be much appreciated

ram doesn't disappear anywhere.
I'd guess you have an integrated vid card which uses some of the ram.

you cannot prevent the death of RAM. just like any other computer part, it will go when it's time comes.

like mammikoura said, your case is probally caused by some of the RAM being taken for onboard video.
