Ram Question

I was looking over my motherboard specs and I found this:

• Memory:
2 x 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM
2 x 168-pin SDRAM DIMM
PC2100 DDR SDRAM
PC133 SDRAM
Maximum 2GB

What is the difference between 184 and 168 pin RAM?

its the type of ram, 168 is pc 100 and 133, 184 is pc 2100, 2700, and 3200. ddr speeds are 266, 333, and 400.

The big difference between DDR SDRAM and SDRAM is that DDR reads data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, so the DDR module can transfer data twice as fast as SDRAM.

So...why would my motherboard have 2 SDRAM slots instead of 4 DDR SDRAM -.-

Some companies thought it may be a novel idea to make a board that was compatible with both types of memory so people could easily upgrade to a higher performing motherboard/CPU while still using older memory to save money.

You can not run both types of memory at the same time. It's an either/or proposition.
