Hi,

I have an Advent laptop that can read all authentically produced cd disks - but if i put in a home made (or any unoficial cd) then it is unable to read it. This includes disks that it used to read fine a year ago/

Any suggestion????

Have you tested the discs in another drive? Also the lense could need cleaning or the laser could be on its way out, especially if other drives are having no problems reading them

Aye, yeah all disks (i've tried about 20) work with every other cd / dvd drive that i have tried.

There seems to be a difference between if they are proper issue (windows installation disks) and other homemade ones).

I wasn't sure if it was one of these Sony anti-pirating small progs that they instal and hide on computers to allow only certified (?) disks to work/ But i downloaded some small prog to search for the Sony bug - and it didn't comeup with anything.

??????????????????

The laptop (and drive) is about 6years old.

Could that make a difference - coz i thought that if a drive dies it'd die for ALL disks not just for home burnt (and not retail) ones?!?!
