below is a thread about my new build, there are questions in there, if you know them please answer!! my first custom build so they may be noob questions..

Ok as you guys may know, i have been planning to upgrade my compaq evo w4000 to a decent computer. i have come across what seems to be the perfect motherboard an MSI PT880 seen here theres a guy on ebay that only wants 39.99 for this, is that a good deal?? and ill have an nvidia geforce 5500 oc 256mb gfx, and 768 ram (will 2700 and 3200 run at the same time on this motherboard?) umm.. ill have a p4 northwood 2.4ghz Overclocked (i need a heatsink that will fit this motherboard, do i just get a socket 478 heatsink and fan??) ill have a 300 watt psu, ill get a better one if needed, and ill just have the compaq case, its very adaptable :) so hidden behind a crappy case, isnt a half bad pc!

lemme know what you guys think, any conflicts lemme know

Yes, PC2700 and 3200 will run at the same time on teh same board, but both will run at pc-2700 speed. and just to be safe i'd upgrade the powersupply to atlease a 450 watt.

i would say atleast this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182015

otherwise this looks like a decent build

you said this was a new build right? if so why get such old parts? I have nothing against the 478's, they are good boards/procs but if your building new, you might as well get something that is newer.

if its in your budget take a look at these, i'll list ram and other things if you start to like this over your current specs

Celegorm is right. Get a LGA 775. These are newer boards and you will be able to upgrade to core 2 duo in time.

well the only reason im sticking with my older stuff is because i only have 80bucks right now, and i have a processor, and ram on the way, so all i need is a motherboard and a fan and heatsink and then im set, however i am going to overclock this p4 to around 2.6 or anything higher and stable, so nothing too amazing but it should run, i mean having a fast processor isnt really a big deal for me, i do multitasking on my laptop, so the 2.4 overclocked should be plenty for medium end games with mid-graphics, but what kind of heatsink should i get? that will fit a socket 478?
