Yeah, the A-10 is pretty sick. It flies at subsonic speeds, which is why it's so durable. The pilot sits in a "tub" of titanium and the plane can literally have an engine shot off, a tail wing shot off or 2/3 of a wing and still manage to fly. Another cool thing is that since the landing gear dont retract all the way, the wheels protrude from the fuselage a bit. So if an emergency landing is needed, the plane can still land, but the plane will be nearly touching the ground.
Here's some recent proof of the A-10's durability.
The GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun is SICK. That thing is so awesome...fires about 3,900 rounds a minute and the depleted uranium AP shells have such mass and high velocity that it can destroy most heavily armored tanks in as few as 6 direct hits. Yummy.
