Cracking WEP with Windows XP part 2

i find this really confusing. is there a really n00b guide lol? ... i cant even see part one. where is it?

...hmm im reading into this and i have a belkin usb adapter on my pc and built in wireless on my laptop. the wildpackets thing doesnt support usb apparently so my desktop is ruled out and it doesnt support intel centrino based chipsets so my laptop is ruled out. any other ways?

my wep access point was cracked when i lived in england.
i only found out when my isp sent me an email about illegal downloading...
i was furious as it was my business account.
instead of upgrading the encryption, i sat up late for a few nights watching my router logs until he logged in, then i scanned his pc, found his CV with address etc in his shared folder and promptly walked over to his house and hammered on the door.

he was 18, i scared the living sh*te out of him at 2am :D
his parents were not too happy being woken up, but how i enjoyed it!

I would have kicked the sh*te out of him. Did you get any money back off the parents?

To the average joe like myself security is locking your doors { firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc...) we don't concern ourselves with the how and the why...but...to a professional InfoSec specialist it's knowing what can be done, how it's done, what they're after, and how to stop it.

And in order to know how to stop something you need to know how they do it.

If you were in charge of a company's security...this is something you'd want to know. Why? Because then you could come up with a plan to prevent it.

There will always be those who will misuse knowledge...you can't prevent that...unless of course you prohibit any knowledge that can be abused...and even then you won't stop it.
And you'll always have those who see the negative aspects of anything.

but trying to control the behavior of others is a waste of time and energy.

funnily i now enjoy a drink with his father when i bump into him downtown. his father runs an estate agency and gave me some IT work a while back.
The isp never took it further when i said my wifi had been cracked.
