I don't know if bytes is the right word, Hz simply means cycles per second, so 2GHz is 2 x 10^9 cycles per second. What exactly goes on in a cycle is beyond me. Maybe someone else can answer this...

AKA a lot.

One CPU at 2 GHz maybe able to process 50 gigs in a second, another at 2 GHz could do 100 gig. (just shooting figures off the top of my head)

It depends on lots of things such as cache, and pipeline lengths.
