There must be too much. I had some on mine, and i was experimenting, It was running low 40s. Then i put on a little more and and the temps are idling around 55. Now i put a little too much on, but in your case, you might just have a tidbit too much.
well i put it on again but tried my own ideas as opposed to artic instructions along with making sure to keep the amount minimal. then reconfigured fans. its at 37-38 now.
i've installed about 94530495 procs and the best results come from taking a credit card and spreading the ac5 all over the proc evenly and very thinly, my a64 3200+ is at 2.6ghz and it's at 28 degrees celsius right now, never goes above 34 degrees.
Remount the heatsink. Oh, and before you pull it off, look at the bottom of the heatsink and the processor and see how much it getting on the heatsink, AS5 that is.
