Well, your spare 256MB sticks would do there. And, I think they need pairs. It's optimal to do it. And, I think it's because of dual processors. Dual banks of memory in pair I think.
dude if it has a northbridge for each set of ram banks and processor then i would think ya need to pair the ram but if it only has one northbridge chip then no ram pairing would be neeeded , thats what i think but i dont realy know nether worked on macs before
