cd burner not working??

ok my moms firend just had me install her a dvd drive and i took her old cd bruner to use it cuz one of my pc ant got one
and i installed it as a slave drive
and now when i put in a cd it dosnt reconize it
and i dont here it spinning
do i need drives or somthing?

Is it the only drive on the IDE channel?

Is it in the middle of the cable or at the end?

if its the only device on the cable, set the jumper to cable select and set it at the end of the cable. (sometimes labeled master)

Also is it showing up in BIOS?

and bios idk but ut comes up in windows
it just dosnt spin when i put a disk in or any thing

Look at both drives.

Drive on the End of the IDE cable should be master
Drive in the middle of the IDE cable should be slave

set the jumpers accordingly

its on the back of the drive, here is a pic

usually somewhere on the drive it will show you what pins need to be shorted to enable what mode.

pop the side of the case off and look.

and they arnt cables, they are called Jumpers. and yes you have them

use the jumper off a spare harddrive or cd-rom drive or go the store a pick one up.
