Help with new build...

1 - Anyone have any hints where I can get hold of a really good reference book/magazine/cd to guide me along as a first time builder (but with average knowledge about the process)?

2 - How does this look for a mid-range PC that will run multiple apps, Vista, Flightsim X, etc. I'm not into high-end games.

Antec Solo case
Asus P5B Deluxe Motherboard
BFG 7900 GS OC video card
Intel 6300 (6400?) Duo CoreCPU
2 gig Kingston Value Memory
Antec Neo 550 watt PS

Any help is appreciated

yes, but that computer will run it just fine. That build looks good, there really isn't anything I'd change, except you could get a 7900GT instead of a GS. It's a little more expensive, but I'd say it's worth the extra cash. But the 7900GS will be fine too if you don't want to spend more money.

ohh, and you could read this.

Haven't read it myself, but I guess it's got some pretty good advice.

It could be one high end game, but if you can spare extra money, the 7900GT is a better choice.

Here's some links about the actual assembly of the computer:

This one has a lot of good pictures:

That's a great PC, and I agree with everyone else, get the 7900GT if you can.

Flight Simulator X is a pretty high end game, at high settings, even very high end PCs don't get very good FPS. This also has to do with the fact that in general the game doesn't give very good frame rates, it's choppy. Read this about it:

It's gonna have DirectX 10 capabilities eventually. The game was actually designed for DirectX 10.
