I kind of look forward to the new "Ribbon" interface. See if you can get it through your school. They should give you a dramatic discount. My school has Office 2003 Pro for like $75.
I like 2003 but I tried 2007 and it wasn't too bad. It's a new learning curve but it's got a nice, organized interface and when I tried the beta I had no problem with it. The only thing I didn't like was that it saved word 07 files in a different format by default but that's changeable. I'll wait on it a little bit and see how it's reviewed and so on.
The reason why I choose to keep using the Professional version is because I need all the major programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. It's required for my work and school. It's almost $350 for the upgrade, but I'll see if I can get a discount on it.
the only bummer i see is that the student version doesn't include outlook anymore oh well, I'll just use thunderbird. For access I just use openoffice.org and it seems to work fine for me.
I never got use to using Outlook. I tried integrating Outlook a long time ago, and I just didn't like the feel of it or the way it looked. Navigating around the program took forever. I just stick with Hotmail.
Here are some screenshots of Office 2007 in case you were hiding under a rock somewhere:
why not just try openoffice from openoffice.org? it's the free versions of office. well i'm not a hardcore office user so i wouldn't be able to compare every detail but the programs seem to do exactly the same. no outlook version of exists still though, i think. for those that don't have office you should try it though just an FYI
edit: oh and sorry for going off topic but i read some ppl saying how office was too expensive
