Updating

Well I haven't really posted on this forum a lot, but I have a problem, I'm thinking of updating my PC. So far I have two set ups. The first one is an AMD and it has the folowing:

Now this set up is about $475.93.

The second setup is Intel, now I know they have the best possessors but the first set up (AMD) its easier to overclock from what I've heard.

Please if you can help me out. I don't know much about overclocking and I'm going to use the computer for gaming and some more gaming. Right now I have a 32-bit 3.0 Pentum 4 with an Intel Motherboard and 1 gig of PC 5400 Ram witch I'm going to sell for app. 100 dollars (also could you advise me on how much i should sell my current parts?) Well, I would definitely go for the Intel setup. The Core2Duo's put the Athlon 64's to shame. The E6400 is a nice processor, but if you have the extra money, go for the E6600. It's supposedly amazing, and also has been reported to have been overclocked to 4.0 GHz on only air cooling (no water cooling, from 2.4 GHz. That's a 66% overclock!).

As for the motherboard, if you're going for value, that is a great one. The only thing is that if you are planning on overclocking a lot, it sounds like this motherboard gets pretty hot. But for the value, you can't really go wrong. If you want to do some heavy overclocking though, spend a few more bucks and get the Asus P5B-E:

That memory seems good, the only thing I would think about is that since it's not really a well known brand, you won't know how well it's gonna overclock until you actually test it. Eventually, you may also want to add another 1 GB of RAM, but I would wait until you save up more money.

If you do a lot of gaming, you may want to consider upgrading your graphics card. What do you have right now?

I bet you can probably get around $100 for those parts.

definitely the intel one. But I'd use the corsair ram in the amd build, the price is almost the same.

thanks guys, i think ill go with that mother board (the ASUS one) and ill move the Corseair because they are a better known brand. thanks a lot, if anyone else has input please tell me what you think

Edit: Also i have a 420 watt Power supply and a 6month old 7600 GT on 1500, 580 will the CPU ram and the new Mobo requier more power or is the one i have now ok?

I'd upgrade if I were you, but it should be OK. You can get a nice power supply for under $100, though. I've got this 550 watt PSU, only just over $50, and it's amazing. With the setup in my sig, I have never ever had a single problem with it. Plus it looks awesome!

Anything by Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax, or OCZ is usually good quality though. My advice is to always check the reviews on Newegg before buying any PC parts, they tend to be very reliable in my experience.

I think that it should be fine, just if you upgrade the video card any more you'll definitely need a new PSU.
