I just put in a new IDE 80GB hard drive into my Dell computer to replace an old one. I popped in the Windows 2000 Pro disc, formatted the hard drive and installed Windows, but when I go to boot up, it says that no IDE drive is installed...thoughts?
Sounds like ya may have connected it to the secondary channel. Also make sure that the drive can be seen in the BIOS and double check that the cables are secure
The fact that its a Dell could be the problem, ive never worked on one personally and never will Ive never heard of a unknown device being reported in BIOS. You could try resetting the BIOS to force it to redetect the drives, is the drive definately formatted etc?
