Backing up updates?

Okay I want to reformat my computer and change my setup. I have XP service pack 2 on disc but there is around 100 meg's plus worth of updates. Also can I back up my norton anti virus updates? I know there's probally about 40 meg's worth of downloaded updates there. I'm on dial up so if its possible please let me know how to do it!

One thing i know is that the updates are stored here...

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

How you get them to install themselves after the format i couldnt tell ya....but maybe, when you format, if you paste the backup files into that same folder, Windows Update might see new updates and install them? Could well be wrong there, so it's just a suggestion...

You could possibly create an image of the drive. But it all depends on what ya mean by changing your setup. If ya mean changing components, then ya can sometimes get away with doing a repair of XP after ya have reinstalled the image, this then allows XP to auto detect ya new additions etc. Doesnt always work tho.
You might wanna consider doing a slipstream disc aswell, heres how

And take a look at autopatcher, just download this once and then it will update everything for ya http://www.autopatcher.com/whatsautopatcher/

Well I didn't make a small install partition when I first installed windows. So I have 3 total partitions basically one set up for games, one for audio and video and the other for programs. I'll check out the links that you provided and see if thats any help. Thanks for the info guys.
