I think there is a little trick you can do by opening up the PS2 and ajusting something, I don't know how to do it myself but one of my friends has done it and it works pretty well, google it.

Its a common problem with PS2's, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the cause of all problems with them. Since my mates laser doesnt' work right either, but it still just about works with a hit or two.
