I'd say since you're on a budget go with an AMD athlon X2, 2GB RAM and SLI. That should be more then plenty to play most games.

I just like the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs. Have at least 1GB of RAM minimum, but 2GB is better. I'm always monitoring my processes and 2GB will definitely help if you can afford it. For a video card, get something as simple as this:

So what do you think of these specs? It hits right at my price level, and seems to carry all I need. I can do a ram upgrade to 2 gigs a little down the line also.

It looks all right. Should you ever need to upgrade in the future, you can do so as you mentioned.

that new build looks good to me. The SLI will definitely be good for gaming as well.
