965 vs. 975 chipset

wow, unreal lol...well, dudes, how bout helping out an idiot who isnt as proficient. Heres the thing, just as you guys laid this out, at what point does it get sort of redudant shelling out more bucks for a system? meaning, if im tight on the cash, is it worth it just relenquishing the slightly better specs? this is for audio/daw work. which one should i pick. i afford all of them, but obviously the most expensive one, its really sucking my wallet dry.

I would honestly say you can get by pretty well with Computer #3. The first PC is obvious better but at almost 3x the cost!! It would come down to your budget. If you want to save money, Computer 3 is better. Otherwise, Computer 2 is a nice choice. Computer 1 is just way too much for what you do and as nice as it is, not worth it.

975x = tighter internal timings, lower FSB capabilities.
p965 = looser internal timings, higher FSB capabilities.

I'm looking at this now. What do you think of this? Getting this system for about $2k so Im wondering if its good value. being built for me, i cant do it myself

HardDrive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST380811AS 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Power: Rosewill RP550S-2MK 550W

mobo: Intel BOXDP965LTCK Socket T

Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 2.93GHz
4MB LGA775 1066mhz fsb

Cooling: ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU

Video: [/u]XFX PVT73EUDJ3 GeForce 7300GT

RAM: 4 x Kingston 1GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)KVR800D2N5/1G

Wooo, Core 2 Extreme--the fastest CPU to date. Looks good to me. I always like to spend more money on getting a nicer video card than the actual processor itself, but since you're doing audio work--we can look pass that.

thanks alot :) good hard earned money buying value... hey TRD, on some other forum earlier somebody said 2K is alot for my system. I dont get it! Somebody is building this for me and getting like nothing for labor. the raw parts come out to like 1900. what do you think of that?

It depends on the setup. He's probably thinkng it cost too much because it doesn't include a monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers, etc. Oh and no DVD burner too. The cost for you are mainly the tower portion and that alone is 2 grand. I think it's pretty good for an Intel Core 2 Extreme system. If you were to actually buy a Core 2 Extreme system with 4GB of RAM at a store, it would cost you a lot more than 2 grand.

I didn't really look up that motherboad but I'll assume that it's compatible with your CPU, RAM, and everything else. Rosewill is not a really popular manufacturer and tend to make cheaper products. It should be ok.

TRD, the mobo compatibility issues are okay, no problem there. good tip on the roswell. i'll have to look into that. It actually comes with a burner. i gota get that info. and it also does come with a seagate 120g drive as well and an intel gigabit network card (which will come in handy when i wana network my daws.)
but yea, I fully researched these parts and I dont think the price is alot at all unless peeps out there are shopping from some other parts dealer i dont know about lol.
i just didnt like the hasteness in which that dude said "2k for that???" its almost as if he doesnt even know the prices of these parts. unless, again, I'M missing something?!

sigh*
1. Get X6800 only IF you are going to overclock. If not, no point in getting one.
2. I dont understand how that could come up to 2k. Just doesnt seem right to me.
3. If you really are going to spend 2k, why get a rosewill powersupply? You might be signing your computer's death wish with that.
4. 4GB of RAM is not needed. Windows XP will only see 3GB of it. If you are going to use XP-64, then that's okay as it will see all 4GB.
5. Motherboard, why get a P965 chipset? 975x is faster clock for clock. Bad Axe 2 is a great board.
6. If you are going to use this for audio stuff, why not get a nice sound card?
7. If you are using this for gaming, a 7300 is definitely not going to cut it.
8. Again, audio or gaming or whatever you are going, a 80GB hard drive is barely enough. You will need a lot more space. Try the Seagate 7200.10 320GB one. Very good performance for under 100 bucks.
