psu or cpu fan issues

Hello all. Last night my computer shut down while I was working on my
other system via a kvm switch,so I'm not sure of any warnings. I have
been hearing my psu,I think, making funny buzzes and spikes and sags,a
fan I'm sure. I tried to power it back up right away and it would sound
like things wanted to start but they would not. I plugged into a
different outlet today and everything worked fine for about an hour and
I started hearing the sags/spikes again and noticed through my side
panel that the cpu fan was slowing yet my two back panel fans were at
full speed so I just shut down. Any ideas would be very appreciated. I
am running SuSe 10.1 Linux on an AMD 2800 w/512 ram and the system is
about 5 or 6 years old. Thanks everyone.

Definitly sounds like the psu. Replace it before it checks out and takes the rest of your pc with it.

the psu is deffinatly bad. if it was surging like you said it sounded like, there is a possiblity of other damage, like a partially blown motherboard.
