I was wondering what is the easiest way to prevent windows xp from going to the the shutdown screen when turning off the computer. Every time I go to shutdown I have to wait for the screen and then hit the power button to turn the cpu off.

I have recenlty updated the BIOS and that did not resolve the issue.
Specs:
Dell Dimension 4700 w/ XP Pro SP2

Anyone have any other ideas on what to try?

what doe you mean the shut down screen?
If you are talking about the screen that says "Windows is shutting down" then this is perfectly normal, and to the best of my knowledge cannot be avoided. But why would you want to avoid it?

The screen that says it is now safe to turn off your computer. On most newer computers the computer would normally just turn off. But you have to press the power button on the case.

i used to enable apm from a tab in power options and also from my bios. do what that guy said ^
