Can't boot up or re-install Windows XP

Well i dont know what else to suggest, like i said, i would be testing it in another pc, which would confirm the HDD is dead if it aint working, or confirm that something else in the computer is the problem if the HDD works. Maybe someone else can suggest something, but that would be the next logical step. Test it in a friends pc if you can.
EDIT
Might also be worth running memtest on the RAM, just to make sure that isnt faulty. Or stick in some known working RAM if you have any lying round.

Thanks for spending the time to try and help.

I guess I'm just going to have to buy a new HDD.

Ya must have a friend or a relative who can help ya out with their pc, to test the drive on it. Id hate to see ya buy a new HDD only to find out its a bad mobo or something else mate

have you tried connecting the drive to the other SATA socket, just to make sure that the other socket isnt causing the problem
EDIT
I know this is a long shot aswell, but try clearing the CMOS, by moving the jumper on the mobo, and then moving it back (while pc is off)
