I frequently use my USB drive to install antivirus software, firewall etc. Into computers that I fix for my business. I use this USB drive and plug it into tons of computers including my computer at home. I know some of the computers i've plugged it into have been infested completely with viruses. Am i spreading viruses via the USB drive?

That depends if you are copying infected EXE files into the other peoples computers, but as long as you are only acessing the USB drive to install from, and not to install too, I don't see why it would.

Do a scan on it to check though (if you can check external USB drives that is)

if you only use it to install from and not to write to, then if it has a write protect swithch then flick to to locked and it cannot get infested any way because nothing can be written to it , thats what i do if i know a computer is invested with viruses and i am gonna fix it

erm ok, if you know a pc has a virus always scan it afterwards, and if only using it to read then write protect it.

i also used to defrag my 2GB drive
and my friend still does dfrag his 4GB drive just to keep it running fast
