i have 768 mb ram..(1 512 mb and 1 256 mb)... 2.4 gig processor... 64 mb video card inno3d gforce4 mx 440/440se.. and 80 gig + 40 gig hard disk... any advice on how i can speed up my pc? for better pc games and office processing... and another question is 512 mb pqi pc 533 compatible with kingston 512 mb pc 400?

what cpu is it, 2.4ghz tells very little about the performance.

How much are you looking to spend? And what video card slots do you have in your mobo? Also what powersupply do you have?

And the ram is compatible as long as the mobo accepts both of them (so both are ddr, ddr2 or what ever, but they need to be the same) So as far as I can see that ram would be compatible, but the faster one will be forced to work with the speed of the slowest one.

Depends on your processor. If it's a 2.4 ghz Celeron, I'd say you should upgrade that.

And also your 2 ram sticks, are they the same speed? Because if not, they will be running at the speed of the slower ram stick so if you take out the slower one and leave the faster one in, you will have better performance with just the one ram stick.

my board is asus i forgot mx something.. but the memory slot has 2 ddr and 2 sdram... it was top of the line 2 years ago... thats all i can say.. except for the video card... my video card slot is "vga".. its not pci.

will the speed change if i change the video card? is 768mb memory proportion to the size of the hard disk... my monitor is 17" btw. im not going to spend that much.. but if there's 1 part that i should change what should i change to make my pc faster?

the exact model of your mainboard and CPU would help us out greatly.

go to start/run/-type *dxdiag* and copy the specs from there onto here.

If i were to upgrade 1 part i would upgrade the RAM

Ditch Your current memory

(i would sell it , get some cash back )

then buy this

You are probally using an AGP slot so i would get one of these cards next.

Then go and sell your current card a get a little more cashback

Good Luck Bro :D

The video card isn't going to speed up your pc that much if all you do is browse the net and do word processing and stuff. It will improve your gaming performance though. I have a GeForce 4 MX 440 also and it runs just fine for me. Of course I don't play games on my pc either.

I would start with the ram and see how much that speeds it up.

os : microsoft windows xp professional
bios: award wmodular bios v.6.0
processor intel(R) pentium(R) 4 cpu 2.4 ghz
memory:768 mb ram
pagefile: 250 mb used, 1628 available
directx driectx 9.0 (4.09.0000.0900)

i already have 1 512 mb ram kingston.. should i change the 256mb with another 512mb? can i use a pqi 512mb pc 533?

another question: would it wreck my pc if my memory isn't compatible? or is it safe as long they are both ddr? regardless if they are pc 333 pc 533 pc 100 etc...

and finally, by changing or upgrading the memory to 1 gig would it speed up my computer? or have i reached the peak of 2.4 ghz processor?

pc 400 is ddr. 533 is ddr2. they will not work in the same motherboard.

as for a difference, you may, or may not, depends on what you do. if your gamming, then yes you will. otherwise the jump from 768 to 1024 would not been much of a difference.

not correct. there is ddr400, then there is ddr2-400. Then there is ddr533, and surprise surprise, ddr2-533.
As long as both are the same (ddr or ddr2) they will work fine. Only thing is that both of them will be working at 400mhz because thats the speed of the slower one. And no, if for some reason it wouldn't be compatible it shouldn't harm your pc in any way.
