First, just like to say hello, I am new here.Onto the cpus,i have done a few speed tests comparing a 3.4 dual core presler 2x2mb cache with a 6400 core duo, and to me i could never see the difference in speed,I have this running on a asus p5ld2 deluxe, the 3.4 runs on 800fsb and i had the 6400 on 1066fsb,Why do i read so much of the speed improvement in so many posts ?.

Well, one reason could be that the memory you have could be bottlenecking the CPU. If you use DDRII-400/533, it's bottlenecking.

The optimal way you will experience the Core 2 Duo's perfect speeds would be to get at least DDRII-667, or preferable DDRII-800/1066.

I am running ddr2 667 kingston trying both cpu's,I am also running a D945 instead of D950 which is not in the list, really i dont know what the difference is between the two.I checked and the 945 and 950 are diffferent in price by $70.

run 3Dmark, and super pi. I will tell you right now that your E6400 will have a time somewhere around 20s (maybe less) while the P-D will have a time of 30s+. With 3DMark, the scores will sky rocket. The E6400 is far more superior to the P-D even without overclocking, with overclocking the performance difference will be far greater.
