ejecting usb hadrware

ya know that little symbol you click on to safely eject a usb stick or something? well, i like to do that so eject my usb stick properly...if it makes a difference. but thats beside the point. everytime i click on the symbol...my internet connection disconnets automatically. wtf? my modem is connected via USB. any ideas? i run windows xp sp2

I don't know why it would disconnect your internet, but you don't really have to click that icon before you unhook your usb devices.

that happens because you are disconnecting the usb root hub which your usb stick is also connected to. try ejecting only the usb stick, and not the whole hub.

and it doesnt really make a difference.

as long as the activity light on your stick isn't flashing, ur ok to remove it.
