Best use of school equipment

Not really. Schools do get educational discounts. No one wants to build over 100+ custom computers for one school. It's just too much work.

My school pays far more for computers than I personally would.

We use IBM as our supplier, and we pay $1300 with taxes for each computer.

Pentium 4 3.0GHZ
512 meg DDR2 SDRAM
Intel 915 based motherboard
Integrated Sound, LAN, Video
80 Gig Hitachi SATA drive
CDRW / DVD Combo drive
17" IBM CRT
3 year On-site warranty (However it takes them up to a month to come)
Keyboard, Mouse
XP PRO (The cd key is located on the chasis, however these CD keys DO NOT work and instead all the computers use a Microsoft VLK)

An exact same spec dell costs $821 with tax.

Schools sometimes get jipped, as our entire board gets screwed.

Edit: How well did COd2 run on those macs?

I said CoD, not CoD2. I didn't even try to load CoD2 on them. Emac's use power PC G4 processors, which COD2 does not support according to their website.

Yeah that is kinda high, but then again IBM PC's are great (or were...) I'm not sure how good they are since lenovo bought them but I do know that when they carried the IBM name they were great. Dell Optiplexes are ok I guess, ours at school aren't the greatest but I have one that's 7 years old and still runs like new. Guess it depends on whether you have good experiences or not.

The only advantage they have over other computers is the "IBM security chip" which we do not use. The IBM computers have fairly high failure rates.

I like IBM Lenovo notebooks. They're pretty nice, especially for the business/road warrior type.
