and kjman87, I think you are correct about the OS supporting the amount of ram. Now I'm not sure about this, but I think win xp won't recognize more than 2gb. (or was it 3gb?)

ok yeah Thanks I didnt want to lie thanks for the input!

well ill probably go with the 2 gigs for now and take the other $281 i was going to spend on the other ram chip and put it towards the 8800gts

now i still need the sound card so anyone wanting to help on that then go ahead but make it afordable(try to be under $200) and im still going to be getting the monitor, keyboard and mouse but im not woried about that yet, but if you think of any other parts i need please post it

hdd: personally I don't really like maxtor, had some awful experiences with them (my hdd broke, and as if that wouldn't have been bad enough it took 5 weeks to get it back after sending it for replacement)

ram: I'd get some faster ram. ddr2 800mhz would be great.

ok well i changed my ram to a ddr2 800mhz, and im looking for a new HD. so right now im looking into getting a system that will cost me about $1800 before i get the monitor, keyboard, and mouse and speakers.

Thought I might add this, I'd wait before I build unless its something you need real soon, because two things are coming, the r600, which will most likely make the 8800gts drop in price, and the intel quad core processors, the consumer priced line. They still might be a lot though.
From what I hear, the conroe (core 2 extreme) you're getting has some mad overclocking capabilities. It should be a great computer when its done!

yeah but im not going to wait for that because ive got my stuff priced out and its not going to bother me with what i have because its really good and its afordable. im on a minimum wage budgit and cant spend a fortune
