Ok so, i jsut went onto the eDonkey site because i was reading something on Wikipedia that had a lnk directed to it and it says that downloading copyright music is illegal blah blah. But then it says my IP address has been stored. So thsi means i cannot download music anymore without being sued for more money than i have?

i went to the website behind a proxy to have a look. I don't see what they could charge you for, i mean you just visited the site. If i were you I wouldn't be too worried about it but there is the possibility now if they want to take legal action that you can now be tracked to your home address. I'm not sure what else to think about it.

oh and this is the message for those who are interested:

The eDonkey2000 Network is no longer available.

If you steal music or movies, you are breaking the law.

Courts around the world -- including the United States Supreme Court --
have ruled that businesses and individuals can be prosecuted for illegal
downloading.

You are not anonymous when you illegally download copyrighted material.

Your IP address is ---------------- and has been logged.

Respect the music, download legally.

i downloaded proxyway. Is there a way to block people from seeing your file download. Torrents and things like that.

For music, you can always use some "Google Hacking". Not quite sure on the legality of this...
Search using a string like one of these:
-inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "ARTIST/TITLE/ALBUM"
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "ARTIST/TITLE/ALBUM" -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls

Other than that, generally BitTorrent is very safe to use if you can get an invite to a "private" tracker.

If you're using Limewire, etc., either do not share files at all, or share very few. Generally, lawsuits target the uploaders. With p2p apps such as Limewire though, you have to be very careful. Make sure that the file size actually corresponds to the type of file (e.g. a songs should be about 5,000 kB). Viruses run wild on these networks if you're not "smart" about you're downloading. I heard a story that some guy was trying to download a song, but it was actually child porn, and he got busted, and is now facing a very very long prison sentence. Ouch.

I've also heard that if you have wireless and it is unsecured, in a lawsuit you could make the argument that anyone could have been on your network downloading it, but I have no idea if that would actually hold up.
