Actually we weren't that heavily taxed. The average British person paid about 20x what a colonial paid. Example for you to pay 1 dollar per person for the tea tax you'd have to drink 1 gallon a day.
One gallon of hot tea every day sounds like a wee bit much. Or the stamp act I believed increases the cost of paper by what was it 1.5%? Not a significant figure at all.
In fact when Thomas Jefferson was in New England he was told by the colonies to accept no deal which gave America representation in Parliament because they new 2 or 3 delegates of American background isn't going to do crap to the Parliament when it comes to issues which are important for Americans.
