The only catch there is, is that it needs to have Windows XP, Microsoft Ofice, Speakers, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, needs to be compatiable, and it needs to be Core 2 Duo. So see if you guys can get this down to $1,500

Case: RAIDMAX Scorpio ATX-868WSP Silver 0.8mm SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $50.00

Software: $320

Burner: ASUS Combo Drive Silver E-IDE/ATAPI Model CB-5216AG SV - Retail $27.00

CD/DVD Drives: LG Beige E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model 8164BI - Retail $18.00

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $138.00

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) $145.00

HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM $70.00

Monitor: Acer AL1916Fbd Black 19" 2ms $219.99

Keyboard: Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 B2L-00047 Black USB $21.99

Speakers: Creative I-Trigue 3300 43 Watts $66.99

Video Card: XFX PVT71JYHE9 GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express $299.99

All this for $1,700 can I get it down to $1,500 and still have a great computer or shold I go to dell? And hell with Dell i get vista for $10 next year!

If you go with dell your screwing yourself over. That GPU your paying from too much for you can cut at least 40 bucks off that price. And you can always find software elsewhere for far cheaper.

Get a case off ebay that includes a 500w power supply. That'll save $70 right there. I got mine for $40 and it comes with a 500w.

yep mm.. i'd reconsider the video card and maybe get the e6400 instead since it's considerably better than the e6300. other than that.. i think it's ok..

true. And I'd get a little cheaper vid card, no dx10 and only 1gb of ram means that you can't run the games released next year (if you play games) at full settings anyway, so why spend so much on the vid card?

That is also a very good card, and you can get it now for $200.

edit: talking about the 1st build of course.
