I'd be really grateful if someone could remind me how to do this!

I'm running XP, and I dont like the way the writing under the desktop icons defaults to a see through background. I know there is a way to do it, as I've done it a while ago on my computer at work (which is also XP, and also running Window Blinds)

I hope that made sense!

start>control panel>performance and maintenance>adjust visual effects>uncheck the box for "use drop shadows for icon lables on the background"

- Right click on the desktop + click Properties
- In the properties window click on Appearance at the top.
- In the Appearance window click on the Advanced button
- In the Advanced Window click Item: from the drop down list and choose Icon and you can pick your icon font size and type.

I haven't got a 'performance and maintenance' option in control panel

That doesn't work, it doesn't give any options about the background to the text

Thanks anyway, I'll keep trying

lol, I found it if anyone is interested.

Control panel, system, advanced, visual effects, tick custom, then untick use drop shadows...

What Thebigdintx said almost. :)
