Loss of computer performance

aany one kno the command to check fps in counter strike source
i dont wanna fraps since it interfers with xfire

i checked my fps
it's staying at 9
i used to play a high settings no problem
i put em on alll low and same problem 9 fps

okay, so it's definitely because of the fps.
One thing to try, I think in css there is a command that limits the fps. Try limiting it to say, something like 100 and see if the fps goes up. Since it's constantly at 9, even with different settings it could be locked. And if you can't find the command, (though someone here must know it) you could try reinstalling the game. And after deleting the game make sure to delete the config file.

also my cpu usage is constantly at like 70% to 100% jumping back and forth

i cant even play BF2142
You need to sort through all the processes on your system and get rid of the ones you don't need.. personally, i'd just back up data and reformat.. I dunno if this helps, but this is pretty much all I have running on my system.. and it plays games with no problems at all..

I do close firefox and azureus before I go in game though.

eh.. I just backup all my data on my own.. you can't expect a program to grab what you want to keep and toss what you don't want.. since it doesn't really know..

would this work
i use this program called Optimize something i bougt it
and i can restore my system settings to what i had before
when i did a scan to clean out unwanted stuff

Optimize by PC Pitstop

what processes take up the most memory? try killing those using the taskmanager or winpatrol (if you have it). Also it's possible it could be a rootkit, try downloading AVG anti rootkit beta, I forget the link of it but just type it in google and it should come up.
