What version of Java are you installing? I'm using version 1.5. Go into the COntrol Panel and open up the Java applet (icon). Then click on the Update tab and click Update Now on the bottom of that window.

Lol, these two suggestions will probably just end up being Java updates, but two different methods for approach.
