Im with adelphia.net right now and I have a SB4101 SurfBoard Cable Modem, I want to get rid of this baby and get a router, I have 4 computers that I want to be connected at all times, 24/7 through a wireless router.

My internet is where I can talk on the phone at the same time while being on the internet so I need a good router to purchase, I want to stayunder the budgetof $60 if anyone can find me one on ebay or give me the actual name and everyuthings so i can look it up on ebay.

Anyone??
You have DSL. Ain't it great?
You have to have the modem. If you get another one you need to get what is the approved list or be able to program it and give the MAC numbers to your dsl provider. Even then it may not work with their system.
SMC may not be to every ones liking but I have one of their wireless routers. It's on loan so I don't have the numbers to give you but I got it from www.microcenter.com for under 20 bucks. It has a lot of software features and good range. Easy to program.

Hey,

As i said before, the Netgear DG834G is a nice little wireless modem/router, and is nice for price too...here is a link to the product....remember you will also need to buy wireless Network cards to install in each PC, which will set you back about $40 AUD each pc (i think thats about $25-35 USD but dont quote me).....

MY computers already have a network card installed, or do I need to get a specific one?

You will need Wireless Network cards (NIC)...which are usually in the PCI format and have a big aerial sticking out the back lol....as for model numbers, im not the best to ask as i myself dont have one...

You said you wanted to ditch your modem. I think you have the terms confused.
A router plugs in to the modem and gives multiple computer hook up to one modem. And the SMC is a hardwire/wireless router. Just trying to help in under your budgit. Didn't mean to confuse...
Go here to find help. http://www.dslreports.com/

I found a bid and It only includes the following:

NETGEAR DG834G Version 1 ADSL Wireless Router
Network Cable
Power Adapter

Should I get it or do I need all of the other stuff that is not included in this package or are these items here just fine?

Also I dont have anything huge sticking int he back of my computer, but my computers already have some kind of other network card inside of it... do I have to get a certain kind of card or can I use the ones I have now?????? If so where should I go to get these certain ones.. or whats it called I mean?

http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/GWirelessRouters.aspx

That is the type of card you will need...not that particular model as that has a speed of 108MBPS, whereas the modem/router i suggested was 54mbps, so getting a 54mbps network card will work just as effectively for cheaper.....also, i do suggest if you are going to purchase these, to get another opinion before doing so, as im not as good as a lot with Networking etc...

Matt

That would work fine if you wanted a 4 pc network, but if you wanted those 4 pc's connected to the internet, you will need a modem also....and that DG834G that i suggested before, was a modem/router, meaning it has an in built modem allowing an internet connection as well as the network connecting the 4 pc's....sorry if i confuse you im not the best in Networks...

I need a router for my dsl connection.

If someone can help search for an router or knows a good router they ahve on ebay or have at their house that i should buy.

I want to have 3 computers online at all times, but sometimes I will want this 4th one to be online here and then.

Let me know!

Just make it all 4 PCs online at the same time, any time, whenever. If you want wireless, don't worry about the NIC. Useless as floppy drives. Buy one wireless router w/ power cable, and 4 PCI wireless adapters or USB wireless adapters. I recommend the following brands (everything doesn't necessarily have to be from the same manufacturer---I have a Linksys wireless router, but a D-Link USB wireless adapter. As long as the wireless protocol match [802.11g], you're all set): Linksys, Netgear, and D-Link. I don't trust all others.

LINKSYS WRT54G IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G Broadband Router - Retail

D-Link DWL-G122 IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 High Speed 2.4GHz Wireless Adapter up to 54Mbps Data Rates 64/128-bit WEP WPA—Wi-Fi Protected Access - Retail

That USB adapter is the exact one I have now. Works great with excellent range. The cradle it comes with is nice, as you can extend the USB elsewhere.
